Swimrun, a sporting event in the heart of the Basin

The newest edition of Swimrun took place on Sunday, June 23. For the first time, the sporting event took place in the heart of the Arcachon Basin. On this occasion, Challenge of them and swimming champion Laure Manaudou, came to support the participants and take part in the race. Swimrun is a sporting challenge that combines running and swimming. On Sunday, participants ran for an association cause: the 4MYPLANET foundation created by sailor Alexia Barrier. 4MYPLANET works for the knowledge and protection of the oceans.

Swimrun, a unique experience in the heart of the Basin

Swimrun is a challenge born in Sweden about fifteen years ago. Bringing together the two sports practices of running and swimming in open water, it is usually carried out in pairs. Much more than sports, the swimrun highlights many values common to participants: sharing, solidarity, respect for the environment. It is a new sport that is booming in France. This new edition of Arcachon was open to the greatest number, from the age of 16.

“It’s a crazy race,” says Laure Manaudou. This Sunday, June 23, two thousand participants from all over France and around the world were expected on the banks of the Arcachon Basin. On the program for this Sunday sports session: three racing formats. The first, alone, was done over 3.5 km of running and 1 km of swimming. The second, longer course was solo or duet, with 7 km run and 1.5 km swim. Finally, for the bravest and most athletic, the last course offered 11 km on foot and 2.5 in the water. Thanks to these different formats, each participant could then take part in the race at his own pace.

Arcachon in shape

This is not the first sporting event hosted by the Arcachon Basin. Notice to sports enthusiasts, summer is just around the no matter. Every summer, the city sets up Arcachon in Shape. For two months, professional speakers offer fitness classes via weekly sports coaching. Yoga, jogging, tai chi, walking and fitness, it’s all the more activities to keep you in shape even during your vacation.

Every summer, many tourists come to stay in the Arcachon Basin. In 2018, more than 65,000 visitors visited the streets and beaches of Arcachon. It is then the ideal city to organize many events, be they festive, sports or associative. Thanks to this race dedicated to a good cause, the participants were able to discover or rediscover the pool in a new way. So challenging yourself, even in the summer, is good.

While the Arcachon Swimrun has been a real success, the next edition will take place in October 2019. Once again, it will bring together the most motivated participants, eager to give their time for an association cause. Don’t hesitate to take part if you are staying at the Hotel Point France.
