ARCACHON BEACHES

Talking about the Arcachon Basin without mentioning the many beaches, it’s not possible!

Between Basin and Ocean, the Arcachon Basin is a multiple and delicate ecosystem, bordered by fine sand, varying between authentic ports, ocean beaches, natural lakes … Running for several hundred kilometres, the beaches of the Basin each have their own specificity.

In the immediate vicinity of the Hotel Point France, the beaches of the Basin are ideal for sunbathing sessions in peace. Rhythms of the tides, the saltwater beaches of the Basin benefit from ideal temperature conditions, supervised swimming areas, activities dedicated to children and family, while allowing you to eat or enjoy all downtown shops in just a few steps…

Fancy tranquillity, pine-lined sands, a drink after poking a head? You will inevitably find a beach that meets all your desires at the Arcachon Basin.

Beware of rising and falling tides: from one day to the next, the water recedes and sets up its bed at very fluctuating times…

Keep in mind the unique aspect of the beaches on the Basin: the Bayains. In the event of high tides, strong currents, fine sands and low levels, variable and opposite intensity currents meet and can cause a person trapped inside several hundred metres from the coast. In this case, there is only one thing to do: do not fight and let yourself be carried by the current. Once the latter has been attenuated, swim quietly towards the beach, and wave to the supervisors if they are present.

Don’t hesitate to visit the Arcachon Basin website to learn more about the beaches monitored.

Ocean Beaches

The Atlantic beaches, or ocean beaches, offer wide areas bordered by fine sand, lulled by the waves of the ocean, to the rhythm of tides and sprays. As a couple, with friends or family, the beaches of Petit Nice, or the Lagoon will allow you to enjoy, in all seasons, an invigorating sea air and an exceptional view, in a natural area preserved. You can check out the tides here.

DUNE DU PILAT

THE DUNE du PILAT IS AVAILABLE TO YOU WITH ITS 109 METERS HIGH, 500 METERS WIDE, 2,700 METERS LONG, AND SOME 60 MILLION M3 OF FINE QUARTZ GRAINS OF SAND… THE GREAT DUNE DU PILAT, THE HIGHEST DUNE IN EUROPE, OWES ITS FAME TO ITS EXCEPTIONAL DIMENSIONS AND THE EXCEPTIONAL PANORAMA IT OFFERS OVER THE FOREST, THE ARGUIN BANK AND THE OCEAN.

From the Gascon “Pilot” or “tas” of sand, the Dune du Pilat is not confused with the seaside resort of Pyla-sur-Mer, whose whimsical spelling was to bring a touch of exoticism to its residents.

The Pilat Dune is above all a remarkable geomorphological phenomenon. Born from a complex game between sand, winds and tides, this natural monument has the distinction of being in perpetual motion, evolving over the years.

It is a fragile ecosystem to protect. Many facilities have been set up to climb the Pilat Dune safely while allowing you to enjoy an unrivalled panoramic view of the Arcachon Basin, the adjoining pine forest and the ocean.

Immerse yourself in the heart of an exceptional landscape. For lovers of sensation, the Dune du Pilat is also the flight point of hang gliders or colorful paragliders.

All around the Dune, many walks will guide you between the pines, in the heart of the forest of La Teste-de-Buch. If you want to orient yourself towards the water, the summit of the Dune will naturally guide you to its slope, in order to enjoy the delicate sandy beaches of the Arcachon Basin. You can walk at your own pace, in peace, along the Dune, the beach of the Corniche, facing the Banc d’Arguin, towards Arcachon, or, go up to the beach of Petit Nice, towards Biscarrosse.
